All rooms and the lobby at Hotel Schiller 5 are decorated with lots of attention to details; the interior design is an interesting combination of trendy and classic elements; you’ll find chandeliers and deer antlers next to modern vases and black and white photographs. Blue, white, and turquoise are the dominating colors throughout the hotel. The colors also lead you from lively Schillerstreet to the entrance of the hotel, which is hidden in a courtyard. Guests walk through an alleyway lined by glass panels, which light up in different shades and are adorned with quotes from German writer Friedrich Schiller.

Very impressed with the hotel. Woudl be a nice touch if your default method for invoice/receipts was email and not a hard copy.

This was an exceedingly disappointing experience. For example, on the first night, there was some sort of fight near the hotel, and we were repeatedly awaken by the noise of the fight and then by the klaxons of the police coming to arrest the fighters. Then, that morning, starting at approximately 7:00 am, after we had finally gotten back to sleep, there was an incredible racket from construction workers next door. However, the above is only the tip of the iceberg. When we checked in, the reception clerk mentioned the availability of breakfast and told us that it would be free. When I expressed surprise, he explained that the cost of the breakfast is built into the price of the room for the simple reason that, otherwise, the hotel could not charge for it in the event of a broken/no-show reservation. Although we do not usually eat large breakfasts, we did so at the Schiller 5 because it would not cost us anything in addition to the basic cost of the room. Thus, our astonishment when the receptionist/clerk -- different from the one that had checked us in -- demanded that we pay for the breakfast claimed to be free. NEVER AGAIN11

We traveled to Munich from Prague for a quick 24 hour visit, the night before Oktoberfest. We booked the hotel based on its Trip Advisor reviews, the proximity to the Munich Hauptbanhof, and price. Hotel room prices were elevated because of the festival. As we walked along Bayerstrasse from the bus station which is just under a mile to the hotel, we traveled through a busy, but seedy area of town. When we rounded the corner to Schillerstrasse, we encountered a series of casino and dancing bars that raised concern. We did not feel safe, although there were plenty of people around. I think this part of town has seen better days. There is a large banner indicating the entrance to the hotel which is set off of the street. Use Google Maps to see the street view to get oriented before you arrive. We were greeted warmly by the clerk who checked us in. The hotel itself was immaculately clean and our room faced the inner court off of Schillerstrasse, so it was very quiet. The room was extremely comfortable and clean, with a 2 burner stove, microwave, and small refrigerator. There is a table in a small breakfast nook next to the kitchen. The beds were also very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection that was well prepared. The staff were extremely accommodating. It is about a 10 minute walk to the old city which was the purpose of our visit. There are numerous restaurants along the way and the hotel staff can assist you in locating nearly every kind of cuisine. In summary, I would highly recommend the hotel for its convenient location to the main train station and the old city. I would also compliment the staff on their friendliness and the quality of accommodation. It is unclear to me if the location around the hotel is as safe as I would normally like, but we had no issues during our 1 day stay. I would also mention that the street entrance to the main Hauptbanhof is less than 1 block away from the hotel and there is an elevator there for those with luggage.
